A second man who was arrested by gardai investigating a serious assault in Dublin city centre has been charged and his due before the courts.

The injured man, who is aged in his 40s, remains in hospital following the assault which occurred on O’Connell Street and Cathal Brugha Street in the early hours of Sunday, June 23 2024.

A man who was arrested on Thursday has now been charged, gardai have confirmed.

"The man in his 20s arrested on Thursday, June 27 2024 as part of this investigation has been charged and is expected to appear before the Criminal Courts of Justice, Dublin, Court 1, this morning," said a spokesperson in an update issued this Friday morning.

Three other men have been arrested and questioned by investigating gardai. One of those arrested has been charged and is before the courts while the other two were released without charge.

Witnesses to the incident are being sought and gardai are particularly appealing to any individuals who were in the Cathal Brugha Street area, near the Living Room Bar, between 12:40am and 1am and any individuals who were on O’Connell Street Upper near the Spar Shop/Funland/Tourism Office, opposite the Spire, between 12:40am and 1am last Sunday morning, to contact them.
