A man has been arrested in connection with two reported fires that occurred at a site in Leixlip, Co. Kildare in late January and early February.
Gardaí have said that they continue to investigate all the circumstances surrounding "two incidents of criminal damage by fire" that occurred in Leixlip in the early hours of Tuesday 30th January and Wednesday 7th February 2024.
The man in his forties was arrested this morning in connection with this investigation, and is currently detained pursuant to Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at a Garda Station in the Co. Kildare area.
The arson attacks took place on a residential building in Leixlip following false rumours online linking the property to accommodation for asylum seekers. Honeywood, the seven-bed dormer bungalow, was badly damaged after it was set on fire.
Several people had been seen protesting at the gate of the site in the days before the arson attacks took place.
Investigations are ongoing.
