A sixteen-year-old boy was stopped by gardai after he was detected travelling at high speed in a powerful SUV - while accompanied by his mother.

"Gardaí were out checking speed along the N3 in Co. Cavan when they prompted the driver of this jeep to pull in after detecting it travelling 141km/h in a 100km/h zone," said a spokesperson.
"He was 16 years of age and his mother was a front seat passenger," they added in the post which includes a photo of the vehicle which was stopped - an Audi S5 SUV.
In an update, posted this Monday evening, gardai confirmed the SUV was seized and that the adult passenger will "receive a court date in the post".
The teenaged driver has been referred to the Garda Youth Diversion Programme.
