GAA players raise funds for friend's mother after life-changing diagnosis
A group of GAA players have embarked on an "ambitious challenge" to raise funds for one of their friends' mother, after she was diagnosed with motor neuron disease.
Brian Kelly, Eoghan Diffley, Emmet Burke, Ciaran McManus and Conor Murphy have the goal to kick points in every county in Ireland, visiting a different club pitch in each county.
The group of young men, including four members from the St Barry's GAA club, along with Brian Kelly from the Newtown Cashel club in Longford.
The five friends have decided to take on the challenge to support Conor's mother, Nicola, who has recently been diagnosed with motor neuron disease.
"While MND can present in various ways, Nicola is currently experiencing weakness in both her arms and legs to the extent that she has no function in some of her limbs and evolving weakness in the remaining areas," they said on a GoFundMe page.
