Friends raise funds for Dublin artist recovering in Colombia hospital
A group of friends are raising funds for a Dublin artist, who is currently in hospital in Colombia.
The artist, Cillian Monaghan, is in recovery after having had extensive surgery, resulting from ulcerative colitis.
To help him with medical friends, a group of friends have organised a fundraiser page.
"Our friend, artist, adventurer, father, and all around amazing human being, Cillian Monaghan is currently in hospital in Colombia undergoing a difficult recovery after having had an extensive emergency surgery resulting from ulcerative colitis.
While the surgery went well, it was a major and life changing one. His health remains precarious due to extensive inflammation. The road to recovery will be long and further surgeries will be needed," they explained on a GoFundMe page.
They added: "Cillian has barely been able to eat for 2 months and, coupled with the extensive abdominal surgery, he has been left very weak. He needs physio and it will take him time to recover the muscle he has lost. He will not be able to work for the foreseeable future, but not due to a lack of will.
According to his friends, Cillian makes beautiful furniture but his craft is hugely physical. It requires heavy lifting and operating high-powered industrial machinery that needs a strong level of fitness to do safely.
"Cillian needs financial help to cover living expenses and medical costs as he recovers over the next 1.5 years. His severe illness has left him in a situation of financial precarity. Any amount you can give is enormously appreciated," they said.
