The late Maurice McCarthy
The family of Kilkenny man Maurice McCarthy who died in New Zealand say they are blown away by the response and support for the fundraiser to return him to Ireland.
A GoFundMe page set up to raise funds for the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust, to cover the costs of returning Maurice home, has now raised over €96,000.
Hannah Lonergan who organised the fundraiser on behalf of the family recently posted on the page: "On behalf of the McCarthy family, we are absolutely blown away by the support that we are receiving for the fundraiser. Thank you so much to everyone so far for your kindness and generosity.
"We can't express how grateful we are to you all. The funds are going to Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust and will not only help with Maurice's journey home, but will also make sure that other families in our situation can continue to avail of this outstanding service.
The organisers previously posted: "The Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust aims to alleviate the financial hardship of bereaved families by repatriating the bodies of loved ones who have died abroad in sudden or tragic circumstances back to Ireland. We want to give them as much as possible so they can continue to help other families in our situation. We can’t express how grateful we are to Colin and the Bell family for helping to bring Maurice home to us".
