Simon Harris is set to assume the role as Ireland’s 15th Taoiseach
This Monday evening, at 6pm, Leo Varadkar arrived at Áras an Uachtaráin to formally resign, and later this Tuesday, Simon Harris is set to assume the role as Ireland’s 15th Taoiseach - the youngest person to do so at 37.
Breaking down the day, it is said that the official proceedings in Leinster House will kick off at 10:30am when the Dáil convenes.
TDs will then vote on whether Simon Harris should assume the role of Taoiseach. He will be proposed for the role by Minister for Social Protection, Heather Humphreys.
Following this, the new Taoiseach is expected to start assembling his new Cabinet before the Dáil resumes at 5pm.
After, the new Cabinet members are anticipated to be voted for and approved by the Dáil before it adjourns at 7pm.
In his speech on Saturday, April 6, Mr Harris said: "I promise you, I’m gonna hit the ground running. I will stand by our values as a party and our vision as a nation.
"A tolerant, inclusive, and outward-looking society, which is fair, caring and secure. I am going to match that vision with action."
All eyes are on the new Taoiseach, with many looking to see how he deals with healthcare, housing, education and more.
