Gardaí arrest young learner driver after failed cocaine and alcohol tests

An unaccompanied learner driver has been arrested after failing a roadside drugs and alcohol test.

Gardaí in Longford stopped the driver's vehicle for speeding on Friday night, after which it was discovered the young driver had no valid NCT, tax or L plates on display.

He failed a roadside alcohol breathalyser and also tested positive for cocaine.

Gardaí seized the vehicle.

In a statement issued on X today (April 2), a Garda spokesperson stated, "We work hard to enforce road traffic legislation nationwide and this is an example of what we are up against on a daily basis and what endangers you as road users."
