The detection was made by the Roads Policing Unit in Cork

A motorist is facing prosecution before the courts after they were allegedly caught driving without insurance.

According to gardai, members of the Roads Policing Unit were on patrol in Cork when, using mobile technology, they were alerted to the vehicle.

In a post on social media highlighting the incident, they say it was quickly established that an insurance policy that had been in place for the vehicle had been cancelled.

Following the detection, the saloon-type car was seized by gardai who have confirmed the driver is also facing prosecution before the courts.

Following a separate detection, using the same mobile technology, a white Fiat van was seized after it was found to be untaxed.

According to gardai, the driver of that vehicle was issued with a fine.
