Gardaí are urging people who recorded footage of a knife incident at Atlantic Technological University (ATU) not to share it online.

The appeal comes following yesterday's (February 27) incident, which involved a man aged in his 40s brandishing a knife at the ATU campus in Sligo.

No injuries were reported.

Video of the incident has circulated on social media, with Gardaí urging anyone with footage to stop sharing it and instead hand it over to An Garda Síochána.

A statement reads: "An Garda Síochána is aware that persons may have recorded images or video of this incident and is requesting that anyone who may have done so, not publically share that imagery, but to make that imagery available to An Garda Síochána at Sligo Garda Station at 071 9157016.”

The man in his 40s was arrested by Gardaí and received medical attention at Sligo Garda Station, where he was detained before being released.

Enquiries are ongoing.
