Emergency services attended the accident on the M1 at Junction 4, Donabate, after being alerted at around 7.30am on Wednesday.

The driver was travelling northbound when his car veered off the road and struck a barrier.

The man, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene, and his body was taken to the mortuary at Connolly Hospital Blanchardstown.

The scene has been preserved for technical examination by Garda forensic collision investigators.

The M1 northbound was closed between Junctions 4, Donabate, and 5, Balbriggan South, for a time on Wednesday, with local diversions in place.
