APPEAL: Deaf and blind elderly dog found in 'terrible' condition needs end-of-life home

An animal rescue is seeking an end-of-life home for a deaf and blind elderly dog found in "terrible condition" at the side of a road. 

According to Clare Animal Welfare (CAW), the dog - who has been named Murphy by volunteers - was found by a motorist who "very nearly ran him over" and managed to get him into the car before he came to harm. 

This good samaritan brought him to her home and discovered evidence of neglect after giving him a bath. 

In an update posted on their Facebook page this evening (January 24), CAW stated: "The poor old dog had open wounds on his body and appears to be deaf and blind. After a full check up at the vet it was obvious that he had been horribly neglected.

"His skin and coat were in poor condition with open wounds and suspected mange. His eyes had very painful ulcers and every tooth in his head had rotted away. He wasn’t microchipped and wasn’t wearing a collar. 

"We called him Murphy and made a promise that from now on he would have the best of care for whatever time he has left in the world." 

The charity confirmed Murphy has since been to an eye specialist and his eyes are "much improved". 

Murphy also takes inexpensive pain medication for arthritis, he doesn't have mange and is eating well. 

He reportedly likes to potter around the garden, sleeps most of the day and has been described by CAW as "a quiet self contained little guy". 

He is also fine with other dogs and generally ignores them.
