Still no power for almost 100,000 Irish homes and businesses, ESB confirms

Almost 100,000 homes, farms and businesses remain without power as Storm Isha continues to batter the country.

That's according to ESB Networks, who confirmed 93,000 residences and businesses did not have power as of 5.35pm, however this is down from this morning's peak when approximately 235,000 customers were without power nationwide.

The areas which remain most impacted are predominantly in the Northwest including counties Donegal, Sligo, Mayo, Leitrim and Cavan.

In a recently released statement, an ESB spokesperson stated: "We have restored power to significant numbers of impacted customers throughout today. Due to the scale of the damage to the electricity network, many customers will remain without power tonight while some customers will be without power for a number of days.

"...Met Éireann status Orange and Yellow level wind warnings associated with Storm Jocelyn tomorrow (Tuesday) may hamper restoration efforts in areas already most affected by Storm Isha.

"ESB staff and contract partner crews are continuing to work to safely restore power to as many customers as possible."

The statement continued: "It is important that any impacted customers who use electrically powered medical devices contact their healthcare professional to make alternative arrangements if necessary.

"We apologise for the disruption to family and commercial life this causes, and thank customers across the country, especially those who will be without power overnight, for their patience as our crews work to safely restore power."

Customers can keep an eye on estimated restoration times by visiting Powercheck.ie and ESBnetworks.ie.
