RIP: Search for woman missing since December stands down after discovery of body

A search for a woman who fell into a river in December 2023 has stood down following the discovery of her body.

The search reportedly began on Friday December 22, 2023 after Gardaí received reports of a woman entering the water at Garavogue River in Sligo.

According to the Irish Independent, the woman found following the extensive search and recovery operation is believed to be mum-of-two Stephanie Sweeney.

An Garda Síochána Divisional Search Team and Water Unit, the Defence Forces, Coast Guard, RNLI, Wexford K-9 Search and Rescue, River Moy Search and Rescue, Boyne River Rescue and Rockcorry Divers were all involved in the search and recovery operation.

May she rest in peace.
