Gardaí are hiring! 'Critical' control room jobs in four counties come with surprising salary

An Garda Síochána are seeking applications from job seekers for "critical" roles at four regional control centres.

According to the job listing, Gardaí are looking to recruit people to work as Control Room Operators, who respond to emergency 999/112 calls at centres located in Cork, Dublin, Galway and Waterford.

The listing states: "The role is reportedly suited to individuals who have the drive and passion to make a difference to peoples’ lives but who are also able to work in a high pressured and sometimes emotive environment."

Centres operate 365 days a year and staff are rostered on a 24/7 full-time basis.

The roster consists of four days on and four days off; for example, four days of 12-hour shifts (two days followed by two nights) including weekends and bank/public holidays.

The challenging role comes with a surprising starting salary of €534.34 with a 25% shift allowance weekly, as well as extra payments if rostered to work on a Sunday and/or bank/public holiday.

An Garda Síochána's Acting Executive Director of Human Resources and People Development, Yvonne Cooke, said, "I am delighted to announce the launch of this competition. The role of Control Room Operator is a critical one for the organisation and contributes significantly to Keeping People Safe.

"Please apply or share with another because It’s a Job Worth Doing."

Full training will be provided to successful candidates.

The closing date for receipt of completed applications is 3pm on Thursday January 11, 2024.

Full details of the role, including specific eligibility requirements and application are available here
