An Irish animal charity is seeking donations following the rescue of a dog on New Year's Day.
My Lovely Horse Rescue (MLHR) took in "big beauty" Rita after she was found straying in Dublin, with the charity stating they had "no choice" but to help her.
Posting about the rescue on Facebook, MLHR described the seriousness of the dog crisis in Ireland, with dogs wandering the streets all over the country with "no place to go, starving, scared".
They stated: "First dog of 2024. We say it again, OVERWHELMING, we just can’t keep going like this. It’s heart breaking for the poor dogs and us, we just don’t have room and worry that we’ll run out of fosterers.
"This is a serious dog crisis. Rita was part of this until today, we had to sort something for her, thank god for amazing fosterers and volunteers who help around the clock.
"Please donate, we need help."
