Young Irish tourist faces hefty fine for breaking statue in Belgium

In the video, the man can be seen climbing down the statue before part of it breaks

An Irish tourist is in police custody in Belgium after breaking part of a statue that stands outside the historic Stock Exchange building in Brussels.

Just a day after the historic building opened its doors after a whopping €90 million renovation, including renovations on the statue itself, the man can be seen in a video, posted by The Irish Times, climbing down the statue of a lion and an angel and ultimately breaking one of the angels arms.

The man, who was allegedly intoxicated, was subsequently arrested after he was found in a fast food restaurant nearby, reportedly unaware of any damage he caused.

According to Belgian media, the building management are expecting the man to pay for the damages that could cost up to €7000.
