A recording from MMA fighter Conor McGregor was played at the funeral of Luke and Grace McSweeney earlier today (September 1).

A friend of Luke's addressed the packed congregation after his eulogy and said, "I have to say a few words on behalf of two of Luke's favourite people in the world."

He went on to speak about Luke's girlfriend, Kelly, who he met in Gleesons in 2021.

He said, "He was her best friend and biggest supporter.

"They spent a lot of time together, sometimes doing nothing, only lying next to eachother and laughing."

Relaying a message from Kelly to Luke, he said, "Goodbye for now, my forever best friend."

He then played a recorded message from Conor McGregor, who Luke admired.

The MMA fighter said, "I wanted to send condolences to Luke and his family. Rest in peace, Luke, I heard many great things about you.

"You're a good man and it's very hard hearing this now. Well wishes and condolences to the family. God bless."
