The detection was made on the N6 in County Galway
A MOTORIST who was allegedly caught travelling at more than twice the speed limit is facing a potential ban after they were charged with dangerous driving.
Gardai say the driver, who holds a learner-permit, was arrested and charged following an incident on the N6 near Glenascaul in County Galway over the weekend.
Highlighting the incident on social media, gardai said the vehicle was detected travelling at 216km/h in a 100kmph zone on Sunday evening.
According to gardai, the driver, who also failed a roadside test for cocaine, was not accompanied by a full-qualified driver at the time.
Gardai say the results of a blood sample taken from the defendant are awaited and that the driver has been released on bail pending an appearance before Galway District Court.
If convicted of dangerous driving or drug driving, the motorist faces a mandatory disqualification.
