FOUR PEOPLE have died following a single car collision.
A male in his 20s and three teenage girls, who are thought to have received their Leaving Certificate results yesterday, were pronounced dead at the scene outside Clonmel, Tipperary.
The single car collision happened shortly after 7:30pm on the evening of Friday, August 25. It is thought that the driver, the male, 'lost control' of the vehicle which overturned.
Mountain Road, where the fatal collision occurred remains closed to traffic, with local diversions in place. The bodies of the deceased have been removed from the scene to South Tipperary General Hospital and post-mortem examinations will be conducted in the coming days.
It is thought that the three girls were on their way to celebrate their Leaving Cert results, which they had received at 10am on Friday morning.
Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to contact the investigation team. An examination of the scene which will take place on Saturday, August 26.
Images of the immediate aftermath of this collision are being shared on social media and messaging applications and Gardaí are also aware of the presence of a private drone over the collision scene during the aftermath of the road traffic collision.
An Garda Síochána are appealing to the public not to share any of this material, if received, out of respect for the privacy of the deceased and their family and friends.
