An animal charity is seeking homes for puppies found abandoned in a cement bag last month.
The Irish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ISPCA) have launched an appeal to find homes for eight "miracle" puppies rescued by a woman and her children on a forest walk.
A total of thirteen collie pups were found inside the bag, however five had already sadly passed away.
According to the ISPCA, umbilical cords were still partially attached to their bodies.
The woman reportedly placed the surviving puppies inside her rucksack and made an urgent call to the ISPCA National Animal Cruelty Helpline; Senior Inspector Alice Lacey responded immediately and the pups were in the vets within the hour.
All eight puppies made it through the first critical 48 hours after being placed on heating pads and receiving emergency fluids and milk at City Vets in Waterford.
They are now reportedly thriving in pairs in the care of ISPCA Donegal, Kildare and West Wicklow SPCA, Carlow SPCA, and foster homes.
In a statement, the ISPCA thanked "the wonderful team" at City Vets and the "kind hearted woman" who found the pups.
They stated, "When you donate to the ISPCA you are mobilising our inspectors and funding the emergency veterinary treatment that these pups were able to receive. You are helping to keep our ISPCA Rescue Centres open 365 days of the year and to give animals the love and care they so desperately need."
The puppies will reportedly be neutered or spayed before being rehomed, and will receive all vaccinations.
Anyone interested in opening their home to one of the puppies is invited to email rehoming@ipsca.ie or call the rehoming co-ordinator, Laura, on 043 3325035.
