SINGER SONGWRITER Dani Larkin has just released her new album 'Next of Kin' and hopes it will resonate with listeners.

As part of her Irish and UK tour, she will perform in Dolan's  in April.

Often recognised for her unique voice, Dani said she loves that people are drawn to it.

“It's something that really stands out to people - for me, it's just my voice, but it seems to be the main thing that draws people to my music.

“It's so important to me that my voice is the first thing that people hear and connect with.”

Dani explained that her new album is very different to her last one and offers a lot more production to complement her voice.

“With my first record, it was stripped back and almost like when I sang, listeners would feel like I was sitting next to them. This album is more fully produced,” she said.

The album does reflect some of what is happening in the world at the moment, but Dani said that she didn't set out to make a political statement with her music.

“Politics is art and art is politics and people really look to artists to share their thoughts or feelings. I didn't set out to make a political record, but the songs will mean different things to different people,” she said.

Explaining what 'Next of Kin' is about, she said: “It's about sharing the breath of life and what we experience from childhood until death. Within that, there is love, joy, hope and connection alongside fear, hurt, despair and grief.”

She added: “When I first heard the album, I laughed, I cried and I danced, if anyone experiences some bit of that,  that's all I want.”
