Anger expressed over key bus service in Limerick

Anger expressed over key bus service in Limerick

Complaints have been made about the punctuality of the 310 bus service in Limerick

A COUNCILLOR has outlined a litany of complaints she has received about a private bus service linking the city to Annacotty.

Buses not showing up, two-hour long journeys making people late for work, and the fact only prepaid Leap cards are accepted on board were among the correspondence received by Labour councillor Elena Secas in relation to Dublin Coach-run 310.

“The buses are constantly late,” one correspondent said. “This is the most unreliable service I have ever experienced. It's outrageous how this is allowed to happen,” another added.

Now, council is to write to the National Transport Authority (NTA) to request it extends Bus Eireann’s Castletroy services to Annacotty to compensate for what Cllr Secas said is a “very poor” service.

A number of other councillors also agreed and outlined their own experiences on the 310.

The contract between Dublin Coach and the NTA expires in April next year.

Cllr Secas said: “All the feedback I have received explains pretty loudly and clearly why we need a proper bus service to serve this area. We need Bus Eireann to take over the 310 route and extend their service to Annacotty immediately. We can’t keep asking people to move away from car use and not provide reliable public transport.”

Dublin Coach did not return a request for comment.
