THE FRIENDS and family of the late Ray Joyce joined together to honour his memory and support a cause close to their hearts and have raised an impressive €26,855 for Milford Care Centre.

Ray, a proud Galway man who lived in Adare, passed away in November 2023 after a brave battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife, Trish, and their adoring son, Jack. Ray’s show of strength, resilience, sharp wit and humour during his illness inspired his childhood friend, Enda Mannion, to take action in his memory.

In the months after Ray's passing, it was decided that raising funds for Milford Care Centre would be the most fitting tribute in his memory. In May, a large group of Ray's friends and family took part in the Regeneron Great Limerick Run and raised almost €27,000.

Trish and Enda presented the cheque to Milford Care Centre last month. The occasion was filled with emotion, reflecting both the profound loss of Ray and the hope that comes from helping others in need. The generous donation will assist Milford Care Centre in continuing its mission to provide high-quality care for those facing life-limiting illnesses.

Ray's wife Trish commented on the result of their fundraising efforts, saying:

"We were blown away by the generosity and support shown for the fundraiser. It exceeded all our expectations. Ray was a seasoned runner, having completed the Toronto Waterfront Marathon in 2012 and the half marathon and six mile of the Great Limerick Run on a few occasions so we knew he was there with us for every step.

Fundraising for Milford was important to us. The staff there are truly angels on earth and provided exceptional care to Ray. His loss has been devastating for us but we feel proud to have raised so much in his name. He was a very special person and he will be forever missed and always loved.”

Ray was the star man amongst his group of friends and will be forever missed. Known to many as 'Loggawannia's Lyric Master,' He had a knack for turning ordinary moments into extraordinary memories.

Ray was diagnosed with Renal Cell Carcinoma in 2020. He underwent two gruelling surgeries and relentless treatment in an effort to eradicate his illness. His final days were spent in the exceptional care of the staff of Milford Care Centre.
