Local ‘Rapunzel’ cuts hair in aid of vital Limerick community centre

All funds raised by the chop will go to the Southill Hub

Local ‘Rapunzel’ cuts hair in aid of vital Limerick community centre

Almost three feet - or 36 inches - of hair will be donated to the Rapunzel Foundation

ROXBORO native Sarah Cherry is making a "big cut" to raise funds for the Southill Hub.

Her hair, which currently falls to her mid-thigh, will be shoulder-length come Friday night.

Sarah, 31, who last got her hair cut around five years ago, made the decision to grow out her hair for donation just after the COVID-19 pandemic ended.

Realising how much it had grown over lockdown, she chose to grow it even longer rather than having her hair “just thrown in the bin”.

“Almost three foot of hair” - which works out at around 36 inches - will be donated to The Rapunzel Foundation, an organisation that makes wigs for children in Ireland and the UK who have lost their hair due to illness or treatment.

Sarah will be giving all funds raised to local community centre, the Southill Hub: “I'm from the area and I feel they do a lot of really good work. There are so many great charities around that community centres often don’t get funding, as people choose to raise money for charity instead.”

She feels that the hub supports the community at a “grassroots level”, with the goal of making Southill “a great place to grow up and grow old”.

Southill Hub offers a range of services and supports to the local community, including youth work clubs and programmes, family support services, sports hall facilities, and a community café.

Sarah will be making the “big cut” in The Boro Club, Janesboro, this Friday, July 26 at 7pm. Donations can also be made to Sarah’s GoFundMe page, Sarah’s Big Cut for the Southill Hub.
