Madison Brouder and Emma Greaney with Sheila Porter, SciFest CEO
TWO LIMERICK students have impressed judges after taking home two awards at a national science competition.
Emma Greaney and Madison Brouder, students at Desmond College in Newcastle West, have won the SciFest Junior Technologist of the Future Award and the Boston Scientific Medical Devices Grand Award for their project Rehabilitation Nation.
Under the guidance of their dedicated teacher, Donal Enright, the duo have developed a device aimed at revolutionising the way individuals combat shoulder pain from the comfort of their homes.
The primary goal of the project is to help improve people’s shoulder pain without them having to travel from treatment, no matter the severity of the injury.
According to the project, a reported 18-26% of adults suffer from adhesive capsulitis and other common shoulder complications making it one of the most common pain syndromes in the world.
The two students have brought forward a new device that offers a more accessible alternative for those suffering from adhesive capsulitis, helping them to maintain independence and improve their quality of life.
