CHRISTMAS has come early for 18 new households in the Cliona Park area of Moyross as they were given the keys to their new homes.
The Mayor of the City and County of Limerick, Cllr Gerald Mitchell, was on hand on Thursday morning to oversee the handover, as several families moved into newly built residential units.
Speaking from her new kitchen, Amy Butler, a brand-new resident of the Cliona Park development, said she and her partner, Alan Hughes, were over the moon with their new home.
“I am so happy, delighted with life. The kids have their own rooms now, finally, and that's what we were looking forward to the most,” Ms Butler said.
With Christmas just around the corner, Ms Butler mentioned that, for their family, this is everything they ever wanted.

After handing the couple the keys, Cllr Mitchell explained the importance of these new homes.
“This development goes beyond housing. Nestled in the heart of the community, these homes stand as a testament to providing quality living spaces,” the Mayor said.
The development includes one, two, and three-bedroom homes, all built with energy-efficient features.
“As we see keys handed to new tenants, we witness the fulfillment of the promise to address housing needs in our city. I am confident the residents will integrate seamlessly into the warm embrace of Moyross,” Cllr Mitchell added.
In addition to the new homes, the development includes a new access road, a dedicated cycle lane, associated footpaths connecting with existing footpaths at Cliona Park and Moyross Avenue, bin stores, boundary walls, street lighting, and associated landscaping.
Construction of the Cliona Park Development Phase 3 took place between October 2021 and October 2023.
The project has been delivered by the Limerick City and County Council Regeneration Directorate and the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage.
The €4.8 million development will be welcomed by many across a city currently grappling with a rising homelessness crisis.
According to figures from the Department of Housing, there were 343 adults accessing emergency accommodation in Limerick between September 18 and September 24.
In the same period, in the greater Mid-West region, 87 families accessed emergency accommodation, including 117 adults and 137 children.
