THE Health Service Executive is advising members of the public that a ban on visitors is in place at the Mid-Western Regional Hospital in Dooradoyle due to an outbreak of the winter vomiting disease.

According to the HSE, there are five confirmed cases of the disease at the hospital and six suspected cases.

Out patient, day care services and routine hospital admissions are not affected by the visiting ban but members of the public will be asked to provide their appointment cards for inspection by security at the hospital.

Authorities at the hospital are appealing for public cooperation as visiting is a major contributing factor in spreading the disease.

The HSE says attendance at the hospital’s Accident and Emergency Department should only be if absolutely necessary.
