Limerick village to turn grim for Halloween festival

Children from Glin at the launch of the much-anticipated Glinfest

HALLOWEEN fun for all the family is been promised by the organisers of Glinfest. Glin's new Halloween festival takes place this October Bank Holiday Weekend.

The team behind Glinfest is hoping to have a sell-out success on their hands as they prepare a number of different events.

First up is the Pumpkin Patch on Saturday, October 28. Families will get to choose their pumpkins at the patch, which is set on the grounds of St. Paul’s Heritage Centre at the bottom of the Knight’s Walk.

There'll be story-telling, games, face-painting and Halloween Hot Chocolates. After the Pumpkin patch, there is a child-friendly Spooky Walk in the nearby woods by the Knight's Walk area that is available for an additional €10 per family or €5 per child.

For the adults who want a turn at dressing up for Halloween, a strictly over 18's Halloween Hoolie will take place on Sunday, October 29 in Ceol Ceorbrai with a full bar, music and BBQ. DJ Joe Scanlon will be belting out the thrillers from the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s.

Tickets are €10 and prizes will be given out for best dressed on the night and everyone that attends will be entered into a door prize.

Tickets for the Sunday night event can be bought from committee members and local businesses in Glin.

The festival is being organised in aid of Glin Development, which helps fund the local Glin Knight’s Museum, Glin Heritage Trails, Glin Playground, Glin Pier, Glin Town Park, Glin Tidy Towns, St. Paul’s Heritage Centre and Gardens of Remembrance in the village located along the N69.

The festival is being run by a subcommittee of local volunteers and all are hoping to make certain that this will be a Halloween to remember.

Glinfest representative Claire Wallace is delighted that there has been so much interest in the Halloween festivities: “This is the first Glinfest and we want to make sure there’s fun for the whole family.

"The Pumpkin Patch promises a great afternoon of Halloween fun for families who are coming from all over Limerick. There are only a certain number of tickets available so if you are thinking of going please book your tickets sooner rather than later.”

Tickets for each of these events can be booked by emailing glinfestival@gmail.com. More information can be found on Glinfest and Glin Development's social media.
