POPULAR Limerick festival Music on the Maigue is returning to Croom Town Park on Sunday, August 27.
Croom Community Development Association will be hosting a number of free musical events as part of the fantastic programme.
Marie Edmonds, who has a background in ethnomusicology, will be hosting some workshops in African drumming.
The classes will be held at the Well Meadow Plaza at 11am and 12pm. Children’s places can be booked on www.cromadh.com/events/all.
Music on the Maigue will move to the terrace by the playground for the afternoon.
Well known musician and entertainer, Willie Bun will be live at 3pm.
Willie plays music from the 70s onwards and people in Croom are very familiar with his music.
Prior to the pandemic, he would have played regularly in one of the local hostelries.
Funding towards this event has come from Limerick City and County Council and Councillor John O’Donoghue, commented: “As a local councillor, I am very pleased that Limerick City and County Council are supporting such events in the county and supporting artists, Music on the Maigue is a great free event in Croom”.
Councillor Bridie Collins added: “This is an amazing event for Croom and the surrounding areas and it is absolutely essential that Limerick City and County Council would support this event.
“Limerick has a rich history in the arts and bringing an event like Music on the Maigue to Croom in such a people friendly and easily accessible way is novel and inventive.
“I am very much looking forward to attending and congratulating Croom Development Association and the Limerick Culture and Arts Office for bringing this event to Croom Town Park".
