THE Shannon Airport Group has confirmed that seven flights were diverted to the airport over the bank holiday weekend due to sightings of drones at Dublin Airport.

On Friday, February 3, three Ryanair flights due to land at Dublin diverted to Shannon. The flights had departed from Glasgow, Alicante and London, Gatwick.

A further three flights diverted from Dublin to Shannon on Saturday. These were two Ryanair flights - one from Riga and one from Porto - and an Aer Lingus flight from Paris.

On Bank Holiday Monday a Ryanair flight from Wroclaw, Poland to Dublin also rerouted to Shannon Airport.

"Procedures are in place to deal with any potential drone sightings in the vicinity of the airport to ensure safety of passengers, staff and aircraft," said a spokesperson for the Shannon Airport Group.

Investigations are continuing following the drone incidents and a meeting with stakeholders was convened by the Minister for Transport, Eamon Ryan on Tuesday night.
