Andrew Ormond of Mary Immaculate College
THERE were 12-goals in today's final round Fitzgibbon Cup tie between Mary Immaculate College and UCD.
In the sportsgrounds of the Limerick university on the South Circular Road it finished 6-15 each in this Higher Education Senior Hurling Championship clash.
The duo had lost to UCC and NUIG in previous group games so progress to the quarter finals was already gone for both sides before this Wednesday's clash in Limerick.
In the end it was the Jamie Wall managed Mary Immaculate College that found an injury time point to ensure a share of the spoils for the two sides after an end-to-end contest.
Jason Gillane (Patrickswell) was the only local player on show.
The Limerick side were 2-9 to 2-6 ahead at half time.
But the Dublin university had started the better with two quick-fire goals to signal what was to follow.
Diarmuid O'Floinn had the first and then Colm Foley followed for a 2-1 to no score lead inside three minutes.
Goals from Jack Ryan and Devon Ryan helped MIC to overturn the early deficit and lead by three points at the break.
There was another goal rush at the start of the second half - this time one each.
Andrew Ormond had the sliothar in the net for the Limerick side in the second minute and up the field went UCD for an immediate response with O'Floinn raising his second green flag.
Devon Ryan had his second for Mary I and the home side were 4-9 to 3-9 ahead and 20-minutes still to play.
But the goals weren't finished.
David Mescall and James Devanney found the net for the Limerick side and two goals for Niall Heffernan in the space of five minutes, left the Dublin side trailed by one point inside the final five minutes.
In a frantic finish David O'Carroll had his second goal for the Dublin side to see them lead.
It fell to Bertie Butler to ensure a draw with an injury time point for Mary I.
