Limerick woman celebrates bronze medal success at 2025 Para Swimming World Championships in Singapore

LIMERICK woman Róisín Ní Riain opened her 2025 Para Swimming World Championships campaign with a bronze medal success in the S13 100m Butterfly final in Singapore on Sunday.

Ní Riain, from Drombanna, is a Double Paralympic medallist. UL student Ní Riain previously won silver in this event at the 2023 Para Swimming World Championships in Manchester; however she narrowly missed out on the podium at the Paralympic Games finishing in fourth.

Speaking after Sunday's final Róisín Ní Riain said: “I did not realise how close of a race that was. To be honest I’m happy with it. It’s been a slightly newer event focus for me so hopefully over the coming years I can get better and better.”

Double Paralympic medallist from Paris 2024, Róisín Ní Riain delivered a strong performance when finishing second in her S13 100m Butterfly heat earlier on Sunday to secure a place in the final.

Ní Riain is the reigning World Champion in the S13 100m Backstroke, and a multiple European champion. The Limerick swimmer is competing in five events in Singapore this week.

The 2025 World Para Swimming Championships in Singapore run until next Saturday, September 27 at the OCBC Aquatic Centre.

The championships features more than 600 athletes from over 60 nations and is being hosted in Asia for the first time.

Ireland are represented by five swimmers who bring together a strong mix of international medal experience and emerging talent.

Ní Riain is back in the pool again tomorrow, Monday, in Singapore, this time in the SB13 100m Breaststroke event.
