LIMERICK swimmer Róisín Ní Riain stormed to victory in her final on Wednesday evening to claim her second gold medal of the European Championships in the 100m backstroke final.
In a stacked race that featured the Paralympic champion, Drombanna teenager Ní Riain held her own to take the top spot in Madeira.
Ní Riain, who is the reigning world champion in the 100m backstroke S13 event, saw off competition from European record holder Carlotta Gilli of Italy to claim victory.
This brings her medal tally to three so far this championships with three events still to go.
Ní Riain also took gold in the 100m backstroke, setting a new personal best and then claimed silver in the 100m butterfly earlier this week.
Speaking after her heat Róisín Ní Riain said: “That was a pretty good swim, definitely some mistakes were made there but this is the kind of competition we come to that we get to learn from. There’s some cleaning up to do but hopefully that will come”.
UL student Ní Riain is back in the pool this, Thursday, morning for her 400m freestyle heat where she will attempt to reach yet another final.
