Limerick senior camogie manager Joe Quaid
THE Limerick senior camogie team face Waterford in a Munster championship quarter-final this Sunday at 2pm.
This game is the first part of a double header in the TUS Gaelic Grounds where the Limerick senior hurlers will face Tipperary in the Munster championship at 4pm.
Limerick senior camogie manager, Joe Quaid is urging all Limerick supporters to get behind his camogie team this weekend.
''It's a huge honour for the girls to be playing in there. It's something that they deserve and it's been a long time coming. There's a lot of talk nationally and locally about women in sport and I'm huge advocate for it," Joe Quaid told Leader Sport.
"Until women start supporting women's sport, I think the argument is muted. You'll see there'll probably be 35,000 plus in there for the Limerick and Tipp match with probably 15,000 plus women.
"The women and girls should be ones driving it to go in an support the girls. Hopefully on Sunday we'll get a big crowd in there, not just for the end of the match, but for the start of the match.
''We have a motto inside at training that we want to change the conversation about Limerick camogie and we're doing everything in our power to do that and to give the fans something to proud of.
"The effort that the girls are putting in is every bit as much as the effort that the boys are putting in. Again I urge everyone to come out, I was followed with them ten years ago and the standard is gone to a new level.'' said Quaid
Limerick come into this game on the back of a decent league campaign with victories over Kerry, Down and Wexford.
The Shannonsiders suffered defeats to Antrim and Dublin. In the end, Joe Quaid's side narrowly missed out on a place in the Division 1B League final.
This Sunday they come up last year's All-Ireland finalists which will be a huge challenge. However, it's something that the Limerick senior camogie team are looking forward too.
''We are going well in training. We had reasonably good league and had a great finish to the league beating Wexford. In realistic terms, if you're going on last year you're talking about a team that got to the All-Ireland final vs a team that had to win a relegation play-off to stay senior," Joe Quaid said
"On the paper the gap should be big, but we have a lot of work put in and we're hoping that the gap isn't going to big and we won't be found wanting for effort, endurance and a will to win on Sunday.''
