The Limerick men's hockey side which has reached this season's Irish Hockey Challenge Cup final
LIMERICK Hockey Club's men's team have made a bit of history, progressing to a final for the first time in over a decade.
The club, which is based at Villers Secondary School in the city centre, headed to Belfast to compete in a semi-final of the Ireland Hockey Challenge Cup.
For the players, it was a chance to lay to rest the demons of last year where they were eliminated at the last four stage.
They did just this, defeating the Church of Ireland Young Men's Society thanks to goals from Conor Beck and Ronan Shire.
In the round prior to the semi-final, the quarter finals, they beat Cork club Midleton over two legs.
Now they will take part in the Irish Hockey Challenge Cup final on May 11, with the venue, and opposition still to be confirmed.
Founded in the year 2000, the hockey club has a number of different age group teams. They cater for girls from first class up to senior girls.
They field sides in junior and senior men's competitions.
As well as at Villiers, the club uses training facilities at University of Limerick.
They are always looking for new members. If you're interested in joining up, please email membership@limerickhockeyclub.
