Limerick hurdler Sarah Lavin claims fifth place finish in World Indoor final

LIMERICK sprint hurdler Sarah Lavin claimed an excellent fifth place finish in the final of the 60m hurdles at the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Glasgow on Sunday evening.

Twenty nine-year-old Lisnagry woman Lavin clocked 7.91 seconds in the final, just .01 of a second outside her personal best which she had set in Sunday morning's heats and equalled in Sunday afternoon's semi-final.

Sunday night's 60m hurdles final was won by Devynne Charlton, of the Bahamas, in a new the world record time of 7.65.

Cyrena Samba-Mayela, of France, claimed silver in 7.74, with Poland's Pia Skrzyszowska taking the bronze.

In securing a fifth-placed finish, Emerald ACs Sarah Lavin improved on her seventh-placed showing in the 60m hurdles final at the World Indoors in Belgrade in 2022.

Earlier in the evening, Lavin powered into the 60m hurdles final at the World Indoor Championships by equalling her PB with a time of 7.90 to finish second in her semi-final.

Olympian Lavin is coached by Noelle Morrissey.
