Teenager to appear in Limerick court over stolen car and 'lengthy' garda chase

A TEENAGER has been arrested and charged in connection with recent incidents of burglary and the unauthorised taking of a vehicle in Ballina, County Tipperary and in County Laois.

He is due to appear before Limerick District Court this Monday morning.

A garda spokesperson said officers commenced an investigation following a burglary and the unauthorised taking of a car from a residential property in Ballina, Co Tipperary on January 17.

“In the early hours of January 18, gardaí responded to reports of a second burglary at a residence in Rathdowney, County Laois.

“In response to the second burglary, gardaí intercepted a car in the Roscrea area following a lengthy managed containment operation,” said the garda spokesperson.

An adult male, aged in his late teens, was arrested and the vehicle stolen during the Ballina burglary was recovered. 

“He was subsequently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at a garda station in County Tipperary.

“The individual has since been charged in connection with these investigations and related matters and is expected to appear before a sitting of Limerick District Court on Monday, January 19 at 10.30am.

“Investigations are ongoing,” said a garda spokesperson.
