Table toppers Treaty United face trip to 'the Kingdom'

Treaty United manager Tommy Barrett brings his table topping side to Mounthawk Park on Friday night to face Kerry FC

TABLE toppers Treaty United will look to make it three wins on the spin in the new SSE Airtricity League First Division season when travelling to Tralee this Friday night to take on Munster rivals Kerry FC at Mounthawk Park, 7.45pm.

Treaty made it two wins from two at the start of the new season when securing a hard fought 1-0 victory away to UCD at Belfield Bowl last Friday night.

The success saw Tommy Barrett's charges assume top spot in the First Division table, two points clear of three sides, Athlone Town, Cork City and Finn Harps.

Friday night's meeting of Treaty United and Kerry FC is the first of two quick-fire meetings between the local rivals as they are also due to face-off in the Munster Senior Cup at the start of next week,

Speaking to TreatyUnited TV after Friday's game at UCD, goalscorer Enda Curran said: “It's three points on the board. I think we emphasised that we are going to take it game by game and see where ultimately it gets us.

“It was a great performance. Everyone put a shift in from one to eleven and the lads who came off the bench. It is a massive result to come away with. This is a hard place to come. Credit to our fans who were excellent.”

Curran netted the only goal of Friday's game in Belfield in the 72nd minute after his earlier penalty on the hour mark was saved with his feet by UCD 'keeper Kian Moore.

However, Curran, who scored 14 goals for Treaty last season, made no mistake 18 minutes from time finishing clinically much to the delight of Treaty's loyal band of travelling supporters.

Curran had netted a hat-trick for Treaty when the side's last met in the quarter-final of the FAI Cup back in 2022 at the Markets Field.

The team news for Friday night's game in Belfield saw Treaty Utd captain Mark Walsh return to the team in place of Willie Armshaw. Yoyo Mahdy and Evan O'Connor were included on the substitutes' bench for the first time.

Both players were introduced as second half substitutes’ in Treaty United's precious away victory.
