Ken Mc Donald of Shannon Rowing club after winning his first event at the Indoor Rowing Championships in Prague
SHANNON ROWING club member and Limerick man Ken McDonald has returned home with two World gold medals to his name, from the Indoor Rowing World Championships in Prague.
On top of bagging the World gold medals he also successfully won the European golds in both distances as the races were ran concurrently to the World indoor races.
Ken competed in the light-weight men's 50-54 age group category in both the 2000m and 500m races. He was only 0.4 of a second off breaking the World Record in the 500m race coming in with a time of 1 min 24.6 secs.
Speaking about his most recent wins Ken stated: "At my age I'm not going to these competitions to make up the numbers, I am going out there to win.
McDonald is a garda instructor in the garda training college in Templemore and is a multiple World Champion and World Record holder.
Originally from Ashbrook Gardens Ennis Road, Ken has had an incredible rowing career, since starting the sport at the age of 14, with eight Irish senior national championships, five World Masters Championships (Water), two European Championships (Water), two world police and fire games championships, three World Indoor Rowing championships, two European indoor rowing championships, three World Records at 1km and another for 2 x24hr Records and seven Irish Records.
