GLENSTAL Abbey School powered their way into the second round of the Munster Schools Junior Cup after recording a comprehensive 32-8 victory over High School, Clonmel at UL North Campus on Friday afternoon.

Glenstal's reward for this victory is a second round meeting with fellow Limerick side, Árdscoil Rís, on the week commencing January 29.

After a closely fought opening half, Glenstal Abbey eased clear of their opponents in the second period.

The Murroe side scored five tries in all with hooker Dan McCarthy dotting down twice, while captain Caden Smith, centre Hugh Dillon and flanker Logan O'Connor also crossed the whitewash. Out-half Patrick Peters converted three of the tries and also added a penalty goal for the winners. 

For CBS High School, Clonmel, out-half Conal Morrisson kicked an early penalty goal, while captain and number eight Mbekezeli Masuku scored a second half try.
