DAY 3 of the Mr Binman Limerick Christmas Racing Festival gets underway at Greenmount Park today, Thursday, December 28, at 12.20pm.

Racing will open on the third day of the four-day National Hunt festival with the Keith Lynch Memorial Maiden Hurdle over two miles.

The feature race of the day is the €100,000 Grade 1 Guinness Faugheen Novice Steeplechase at 2.05pm where Grade 1 winning hurdler, Gaelic Warrior, who made an impressive debut over fences at Punchestown, will be fancied to capture the prize for in-form trainer Willie Mullins.

The race traditionally takes place on the opening day of the Festival, St Stephen's Day, but has switched to the third day as racecourse general manager Tom Rudd explained.

“A noted change in this year’s festival is the change in date for the featured Grade 1 National Hunt race. We have moved this race from the first to the third day’s card to avoid clashing with some of the other top class racing action happening around the country during this very busy period of the year for Irish Racing," Tom Rudd added.

Limerick Racecourse confirmed earlier this Thursday that the ground at Limerick Racecourse remains 'heavy' following 10mm rain in the last 24hrs. Some showers are forecast for Thursday morning but they are expected to clear with a mainly dry day and evening.
