Oscar Traynor Trophy:
Limerick DL 2 Clare DL 1
THE Limerick District League opened their Oscar Traynor campaign with a 2-1 win over neighbours Clare in Jackman Park on Wednesday evening.
The playing surface was in fine condition considering the heavy rains that fell during the day.
Fielding a new-look side, Limerick took charge from the start with Shane Duggan conducting matters from midfield.
Regional Utd duo Kieran O’Connell and Eoin Duff combined for the latter to open the scoring after ten minutes.
Limerick doubled their advantage just before the break when James Fitzgerald cut in off his wing and fired into the bottom corner.
The visitors scored a late goal but it proved just a consolation as Limerick held on to take the points.
