Peter O’Mahony of Ireland tussles with Duhan van der Merwe of Scotland during saturday night's Rugby World Cup fixture at Stade de France, Paris

IRELAND set up a mouth-watering Rugby World Cup quarter-final with New Zealand at the Stade de France on Saturday evening, 8pm Irish tine, after scoring a thumping 36-14 bonus point win over outclassed Scotland in Paris on Saturday evening.

It will be the first meeting between the sides since Ireland scored their historic 2-1 Test series win over the All-Blacks in New Zealand in the summer of 2022.

However, the All-Blacks crushed Ireland 46-14 when the sides meet at the quarter-final stage of the 2019 Rugby World Cup in Japan.

Saturday night's impressive win for Ireland over Scotland saw back-row Peter O'Mahony win a milestone 100th cap for his country.

Afterwards O'Mahony's Munster Rugby team mate Dave Kilcoyne was among those to pay tribute to the flanker.

Limerick prop Kilcoyne told Virgin Media Sport: “Pete (O'Mahony) is a Munster man through and through and an Irish man through and through. He leads by example. He is a selfless person, a great leader.

“He doesn't look for the credit, he does the hard work that people don't give him credit for, his line-out D work, his rucking, turnovers, there is so much to his game, people probably don't give him enough credit for.

“For years, he has been the heartbeat of Munster Rugby and Irish rugby. Giving that performance tonight is fitting for the man, he fully deserves it.

“Everyone loves him, I love him. He has been a great friend to me during the years. We have had some bad times together, some great times together.

“He has been an unbelievable captain. He has captained his country, captained the Lions, captained Munster. We have been very fortunate to have him. He has just been the heartbeat of Munster and Ireland for the last 10 years if not longer.”

Ireland are sweating on injuries to Mack Hansen, James Ryan and James Lowe ahead of next Saturday's quarter-final.
