Limerick's Sarah Lavin competes in her women's 100m hurdles semi-final at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest on Wednesday night
LIMERICK sprint hurdler Sarah Lavin broke a long-standing Irish record in her semi-final run in the 100m hurdles at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest on Wednesday evening.
Lisnagry hurdler Lavin clocked 12.62 in the first semi-final lowering Derval O'Rourke's Irish record of 12.65 which was set 13 years ago.
Lavin's time knocked .05 of a second off her previous personal best which was set earlier this month.
However, Emerald AC athlete Lavin, who is coached by Noelle Morrissey, missed out on qualifying for Thursday night's final of the women's 100m hurdles after finishing fifth in a blistering quick race.
