Galtee Gaels scored a one point win over Ballylanders in their Limerick SFC opening round fixture at Kilfinnane on Friday night
GALTEE Gaels made a winning start to their Irish Wire Products Limerick senior football championship campaign when edging past Ballylanders 0-14 to 1-10 in their opening round Group 2 fixture played at a wet Kilfinnane on Friday night.
A point from Tommy Childs in stoppage time proved the difference between the sides in an entertaining contest as Galtee Gaels notched the last three scores of the game to secure victory.
Ballylanders looked to have a gained a crucial edge in the game when striking for the game's only goal in the 52nd minute. The influential Danny Frewen created the opening with a delightfully placed centre for the in-rush Jimmy Barry-Murphy to finish to the net.
A Ciaran Kelly point soon after stretched Bally's advantage to a more than useful two-points, at 1-10 to 0-11.
However, Galtee Gaels rallied strongly and their run of three points, from Tommy Cheilds on 58 minutes, topscorer Bob Childs off an excellent mark a minute later and finally Tommy's injury time effort secured victory for Galtee.
The winners had led the contest 0-7 to 0-5 at half-time. This was an entertaining game, despite the wet slippery conditions.
