LIMERICK’s senior camogie team suffered a 2-19 to 0-11 defeat in the Glen-Dimplex All-Ireland Senior Championship in Cappamore earlier today where they lost to Waterford.

Limerick came into this fixture on the back of a four-point loss to Antrim in the opening game of the championship.

Waterford had beaten Limerick comprehensively earlier in the year in the league on a 3-24 to 2-6 scoreline and this fixture ended much the same.

Limerick were first on the scoreboard first thanks to a free from Claire Keating but Waterford didn’t take long to get their foothold in the game.

Waterford’s Beth Carton scored five of Waterford’s points in the opening half with a goal coming from St Anne’s Niamh Rockett to put Waterford 1-4 to 0-02 points ahead after ten minutes.

The home sides handling was one of their major faults with Waterford capitalising on their mistakes.

Limerick’s Claire Keating kept her team in the match scoring three frees but Waterford were ahead at the half 1-11 to 0-05.

Carton’s scoring did not let up in the second-half to keep Waterford well ahead. She finished her game with 1-10 of the Déise's scores.

Limerick’s Caoimhe Costello scored four points, two from frees to keep the scoreboard ticking over but in the end Waterford’s greater scoring power proved the difference.

After losing their first two games in this year's championship, Limerick now face Offaly in a crucial fixture in two weeks' time.
