RTEs Man of the Match Aaron Gillane said Limerick's accomplishment of claiming the county's first ever five-in-a-row of Munster SHC titles was a 'massive achievement'.

All-Ireland champions Limerick showed admirable composure to edge past Clare 1-23 to 1-22 in a nail-biting Munster SHC decider before an official attendance of 43,756 at the TUS Gaelic Grounds on Sunday Afternoon.

Patrickswell cubman Gillane helped himself to 1-11, including a crucial second half goal and eight points from frees, as Limerick edged past Clare in a tense and tight provincial final for the second successive year.

Gillane's performance earned himself the RTE Man of the Match accolade.

Afterwards Gillane told RTE Sport: "We had to get the job done. I suppose we will enjoy this now. It's a massive achievement, five-in-a-row. We will definitely enjoy it now.

"My job is the easy one on a day like today. The likes of Darragh (O'Donovan) and Declan (Hannon) giving in perfect balls.

"It's hard to put it into words. There is nothing between the two teams. We have seen that for the past couple of years.

"What was it for a finish, a point in it? They could very easily have come out on top as well, they're a super team to be fair, they definitely put it up to us today."

Gillane also paid tribute to the contribution that coach Paul Kinnerk has made to the team's success over the past number of years.

"We get great help going to training there Tuesday, Friday, Sunday and you are meeting the likes of Paul Kinnerk. The stuff that man can teach you is unbelievable so you would be foolish not to want to keep learning so it is a credit to Paul and he has that impact on the 37 people on the panel, so fair play to him," Gillane said.
