CASTLETROY College made a winning start to the 2015/16 Harty Cup this Tuesday afternoon with a 1-18 to 1-8 win over St Flannans of Ennis.
In Sixmilebridge, the Limerick secondary school powered to the 10-point win with a commanding second half in the Post Primary Schools senior A hurling championship.
Castletroy were just 1-5 to 1-3 clear at half time but took complete control in the second half. St Flannans hit 10 wides, compared to just three for the Limerick side but overall there was no denying Castletroy the worthy winners.
They were 1-5 to 0-1 ahead after 22-minutes with a fifth minute Colum Carroll setting them on thier way.
Late scores from St Flananns reduced the interval lead but points from Aaron Kennedy and Mark O’Dwyer ensured the deserved half time lead.
Seven unanswered points on the change of ends had Castletroy 1-13 to 1-4 clear with 18-minutes to play. Aaron Kennedy had four second half points from play with three for captain Carroll.
