MUNGRET ST PAUL'S manager John Horgan believes that Sunday's All-Ireland junior title is exactly what his side deserve.
“The work that they've put in, not many people see it. It had nearly gone to four nights a week for a good section of the year. They absolutely deserve it. It's great that on the big day that when you want to perform, they pulled it out” said Horgan.
Horgan's side defended heroically on Sunday limiting their opponents to 0-1 from play throughout the 60 minutes.
“Everyone delivered, including the five subs that came on. Our panel did it again. The strength and depth, being able to pick positions and put people in and know they're are going to do well”.
In 2025, Mungret St Paul's will now have three teams playing at senior level in football, hurling and ladies football.
“There's a great leadership group in the club now from end to end. There's a great committee there. It's going in the right direction. It's a huge for our community and parish. This parish will be celebrating for a few days.”
Mungret St Paul's captain Aine Ryan said it's a surreal feeling to be All-Ireland champions.
“It's absolutely unbelievable, it's what dreams are made of. I just couldn't be happy for the whole bunch. When the All-Ireland came our way, and when we got that chance.”
“We said, we just have to go for this. This is probably a once in lifetime opportunity to play in an All-Ireland final with your club. I couldn't be happier that we did the job.”
Mairead Clancy was awarded player of the match on last Sunday afternoon.
“Anyone could play anywhere. Football has evolved anyways as they say. I don't mind the wing is good, I could run up and down all day long. I'm delighted with the player of the match but as I said anyone could have won it” said Clancy.
Captain Aine Ryan feels the biggest improvement has been her side's game management.
“We definitely learned now how to play behind and in front. You start to evolve and maybe become a more smart team.”
